A balanced, generous vintage, harvested between 22 September and 11 October. A finer, more ethereal Único than the 2015: harmony, minerality and precise black fruit. 99 points Wine Advocate.
Único 2016 — A balanced, generous vintage, harvested between 22 September and 11 October. A finer, more ethereal Único than the 2015: harmony, minerality and precise black fruit. 99 points Wine Advocate.
The new Único vintage, released in 2026 and crowned with 99 points by Wine Advocate. Compared with the density of 2015, the 2016 is poised, harmonious and almost ethereal. A very pure nose of blackberry and black cherry, mineral and graphite notes, fine spices and oak that is already well integrated. The palate is elegant and deep, with firm yet polished tannins, lively acidity and a long, mineral finish. Beautiful already after a good decant, with a drinking window expected to run to the mid-2040s.
Fermented in wooden vats and aged for around five years in French and American oak barrels (new and used) and large wooden vats. Bottled in May 2022 and rested in bottle at the winery until its release in 2026: a decade after the harvest.
Vega Sicilia’s own vineyards at 720–930 metres above sea level, on limestone and marl soils in Ribera del Duero. 14.5% ABV. Limited production: 92,292 bottles and 3,695 magnums.
96% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Noble red meats (aged beef, oxtail, big game), black truffle, squab and great aged cheeses.
16–18 °C. Long decanting —at least two hours— for wines with medium ageing; double decanting recommended for older vintages.
