Valbuena 5º 2015 — A rainy spring followed by a warm, dry summer. A ripe vintage, with concentrated black fruit and polished tannins.
An excellent year in Ribera, and a full-bodied Valbuena. Deep cherry-garnet. A generous nose of ripe blackberry, plum and morello cherry, with cocoa, spices and a balsamic background already turning tertiary. A fleshy, well-built palate with round tannins and a long, savoury finish; Único's younger brother in a solid, enjoyable version. Delicious now, with several years ahead.
Five years from harvest: 18 months in new barrels, 18 months in used barrels and 24 months in bottle before release.
Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) 91%, Merlot 7%, Malbec 2%
Roast red meats, small game, milk-fed lamb, aged sheep's cheeses and traditional Spanish stews.
